Telangana Chief Minister Revantha Reddy has confirmed his government’s ‘active measures’ to get 42% reservation for backward classes (BCS) in education, employment and political occasions. CM Reddy assured while speaking in Telangana Assembly on Monday.
“Today, as the leader of the Telangana Legislative Assembly, as the Chief Minister, I fully declare that based on the most scientific, methodical and painful efforts of our people, we can say that the OBC population in Telangana is 56.36 percent. Now we are pledge to ensure 42 percent reservation for this group in all areas of life – education, jobs and employment and political representation. Stay to the right of history and let each of us become the champion of this historical step. “, CM Reddy wrote on X (East Twitter).
CM Revantha Reddy’s initiative follows a promise made by Congress leader and LOP in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi during the election campaign, where he vowed to increase BC reservation when the Congress came to power.
On holding the post, the Congress government, led by Revanath Reddy, began a comprehensive BC census on February 4, 2024, taking an important step towards achieving this goal.
“The previous government sent a proposal to the Governor to increase BC reservation. This government is withdrawing earlier proposals and sending a new proposal of 42 percent reservation for BCS in education, employment and political occasions.
Telangana caste survey
The purpose of caste census organized by the Telangana government was to provide accurate data on the demographic structure of the state, especially focusing on backward classes. The survey was a reaction to the need for reliable data to support the proposed increase in reservation in the state.
Chief Minister Revantha Reddy has assured that the BC census report is accurate and reliable, underlining the responsibility of all stakeholders to support the adoption of the BC reservation bill in Parliament.
“As the leader of the House, I am also assuring that the BC census report is 100 percent correct. It is the responsibility of all to adopt the BC bill in Parliament. We will not calm down until I get 42 percent reservation for BCS. We are committed to Kamaardi announcement.” CM Reddy declared the assembly on Monday.
Kamaardi announcement
The KAMAREDDY announcement is a political commitment made by the Congress party during its election campaign before the Telangana assembly elections. This outlines a broad set of promises aimed at increasing the socio-economic status of backward classes in Telangana.
This announcement is a pledge to increase reservation for Central BCS 42%, a step seen as important to ensure more representation and opportunities for this demographic.
Chief Minister Revantha Reddy has appealed to the leaders of all parties to unite in support of this initiative and raise the issue with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
