The government has made many changes in the telecom rules. Along with this, the government has made a list of those people in whose name SIM cards will not be issued.
Recently the government has made eKYC verification mandatory and without it SIM cards will not be issued. The government has taken this necessary step to prevent cyber fraud and misuse of SIM cards. Actually, through this step the government wants to curb those people who used to buy SIM cards in someone else’s name and misuse that number.

Lakhs of SIM cards closed:
Cyber criminals are now becoming a headache for the government. To control these, the Department of Telecommunications has started preparing a blacklist. Even under the SIM card rule, the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has blocked lakhs of mobile numbers making fake calls and SMS.

The blacklist prepared by the Department of Telecommunications includes the names of those people who cheat mobile users by issuing SIMs in the name of others. In fact, the government considers it a threat to cyber security and hence seems to be in no mood to relax.
If caught, action will be taken:
The SIMs of those users who are in the blacklist of the Department of Telecommunications will be blocked first. Apart from this, no new SIM card will be issued in his name for 6 to 3 years. However, before taking action, the government will also send a notice to such people, to which they will have to respond within 7 days. But the Department of Telecommunications also clearly says that in cases which are related to public interest, it will take action without sending any notice.
