At the Pink Ball, Nita Ambani wore a sautoir inspired by the iconic necklace of the Maharani of Indore. It displays rare diamonds and emeralds from his collection.
Nita Ambani’s personal jewelery collection deserves its own exhibition! The philanthropist is often seen wearing exquisite diamond, emerald and gold jewellery, which she also lends to her daughter Isha Ambani and daughters-in-law Radhika Merchant and Shloka Mehta.

For the recent Pink Ball in London, which was co-chaired by her daughter Isha Ambani, Nita Ambani wore an emerald and diamond suit, which is a very long necklace that usually has a tassel or pendant at the end. The Sautoir is a tribute to one of India’s most famous gems: the famous necklace of the Maharani of Indore.
Nita Ambani’s famous pink ball necklace
Designed by Kantilal Chhotalal, this necklace features a 70-carat Colombian emerald, two 40-carat pear-shaped solitaire drops, and another 40-carat solitaire round diamond with Nizami Provence and two cushion-cut diamonds that tie the necklace together.
According to the jewelery designer, the necklace was created under the direction of Nita Ambani and was made using diamonds and emeralds from her personal collection. The post said, “This Sautoir is a modern masterpiece. He personally led the design and guided the geometry using stones he collected over decades.”
According to jewelry influencer Julia Chafe, 40-carat pear-shaped solitaires are rare because they are perfectly matched, which is something that does not exist in the world. She also highlighted the large diamond ring she wore with the necklace and quipped, “I have a question for the Ambani family: Are your fingers okay? I know the weight of each diamond has probably left a dent in Nita’s skin.”
About the necklace of Maharani of Indore
In the 1930s, the Maharani of Indore owned one of India’s most coveted jewels – an emerald and diamond jewel made by the French maison Chaumet. It featured massive pear-shaped diamonds and a large Colombian emerald, designed in the bold Art Deco style that defined royal glamor in that era.
Even though Nita Ambani’s Sautoir is not the original Chaumet piece, the design and symbolism remains the same.
