The Maharashtra government has decided to adopt the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) course starting from 2025-26 academic year. State Education Minister Dada Bhus has announced that CBSE courses Class 1 to class 12 to all state schools will be implemented.
Infection will be done under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

Currently, the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE) conducts exams for class X (SSC or Secondary School Certificate) and Class XII (HSC or Higher Secondary Certificate).
In the first phase, the CBSE pattern will be applied to standard 1. In the next year, teachers and education officers will be trained for CBSE courses.
Next year, he said that the CBSE pattern would be adopted in the remaining standards in two phases.
The state education minister also said that while adopting the CBSE pattern, it will be ensured that the history, geography and Marathi language of Maharashtra would be a part of the syllabus.
Citing concerns over adopting CBSE syllabus, NCP (SP) Executive Chairman and Baramati Lok Sabha MP Supriya Sule, wrote a letter to the land, saying that it is very painful that the state is adopting the CBSE board on SSC.
He also claimed that the government’s move was harmful to Marathi language and culture.
He also said that parents should be given the option to select the various boards available between the SSC of the state, and expressed concern whether the CBSE pattern would be able to do justice to the state’s history and language.
During a statement in both houses of the State Legislature on Monday, Bhusa said that the new course would be applicable from 2025 to standard 1 and would cover all classes in 2028 till 12th.
“In 2026, standard 2, 3, 4 and 6th will be covered, while 2027 will include 5th, 7th, 9th and 11th standard. In 2028, in 20th, 10th and 12th will be covered,” he said.
NEP 2020: New text books
Bhus said that according to the new course, the work of constructing class I textbooks is in progress, and Balbharati has been entrusted with the task of making necessary changes in the syllabus of the State Board of Education.
He said, “The new course will focus not only in the final examinations, not only in the final examinations. This will help students develop soft skills and broadcast quality education. CBSE courses will help students prepare better for competitive exams,” he said.
The minister also said that the new textbooks of Balbharati, which focus on technology, will impart practical knowledge to students.
