NBEMS President Abhijat Sheth told ANI that the National Board of Medical Examinations is likely to announce the exam date of National Eligibility Entrance Test, Postgraduate (NEET PG) 2024 next week. The decision has been taken after a review meeting between NBEMS officials and the Union Health Ministry after assessing the situation and based on the feedback received by the government.
Following the NEET UG paper leak controversy, NBEMS cancelled the NEET PG 2024 exam scheduled to be held on June 23, just 12 hours before it.
It is important to note that the NEET PG 2024 exam was originally scheduled to be held on March 3, however, it was shifted to July 7. But later the National Medical Commission (NMC) rescheduled the exam for June 23 due to the Rath Yatra event, which too was cancelled following the NEET UG controversy.
The NBEMS president stressed that the integrity of the NEET-PG exam has never been doubted. However, the recent concerns of students prompted the government to review the standard operating procedures (SOPs) and protocols to ensure the sanctity, safety and security of the exam.
Earlier, the National Board of Medical Examination announced changes in the exam pattern of the National Eligibility Entrance Test-Postgraduate (NEET PG) 2024. The NBEMS said that there will be mandatory timed sections in various medical entrance exams conducted in the country.
The board had earlier said, “NBEMS has decided to introduce mandatory timed sections in all its MCQ-based examinations such as NEET-PG, NEET-MDS, NEET-SS, FMGE, DNB-PDCET, GPAT, DPEE, FDST and FET, which are conducted on computer-based platforms. This measure has been implemented to enhance the security and sanctity of the examination in view of the emerging threats during the examination process.”
As per the notification, the question paper in the new pattern is divided into multiple timed sections where candidates must complete each section within the allotted time before moving on to the next section. It is important to note that candidates cannot review or revise the answers of a section after completing the allotted time.
The 3 hour and 30 minute exam will consist of 200 multiple choice questions (MCQs) with four possible answers for each question. The exam will be divided into multiple time-limited sections as per the updated paper structure.
