Navya Naveli Nanda, granddaughter of Jaya Bachchan and Amitabh Bachchan, co-founded Ara Health and started the NGO Project Naveli in her early twenties. In an interview with ETimes, the 26-year-old opened up about coming from privilege and how it has played a role in her career. Navya joined her father Nikhil Nanda’s business at the age of 21, and now also hosts Navya’s podcast What the Hell, which features her mother Shweta Bachchan, she and Jaya. ‘I got opportunities because of my background’
When asked about her achievements, Navya Naveli Nanda said, “My upbringing has shaped me, as it does for everyone. When we talk about being an entrepreneur at the age of 21, the credit goes to the privilege I have had and where I come from. A lot of the opportunities I have received are because of my privileged background, and I hope to be able to create those opportunities for myself one day in my own way and through my hard work. I am very grateful for everything I have been given. I feel that sometimes I have more than I deserve, so for me, it’s important to look at how I can transform the opportunities and resources that I have available to me, and share them with others. How can I maximize?
‘One has to accept and respect privilege’
Navya Naveli Nanda said, “I don’t consider myself a celebrity, I feel I have a lot to do and achieve in life before I can be given this tag. Even if you look at the work I do or my social media, See, I always try to keep it real, organic and be myself… One has to accept it (privilege) and respect it. People often try to hide it and run away from it . I think it’s important to recognize privilege and know that there are certain things you’re given in your life that allow you to do what you do, and I’m very grateful for that.”

Navya is the niece of actor Abhishek Bachchan; His brother Agastya Nanda also joined films with The Archies last year. His father Nikhil Nanda is a Delhi-based industrialist; Actors Kareena Kapoor and Ranbir Kapoor are his cousins on his mother’s side, Ritu Nanda.
Navya graduated from Fordham University in New York in 2020. The same year, she co-founded Ara Health, a health-tech platform and line of products focused on ‘stigmatized women-related issues such as menstruation’.
