Vishal Bhatnagar/Meerut. A major city of western Uttar Pradesh is moving forward on the path of rapid development. The construction work of Namo India and Meerut Metro Corridor is also happening fast. A target has been set to start the entire corridor by June 2025, due to which the officials’ visit has also started. The local-18 team made a ground report from Modipuram station, where NCRTC MD Shalabh Goyal inspected.
Talking about Namo Bharat Corridor, Namo Bharat train is running daily from South station in Meerut to New Ashok Nagar in Delhi. At the same time, trains are being operated in the trial process from Meerut South Station to Modipuram. Finishing work is being done at most stations of Meerut Corridor, so that trains can be started in the entire corridor by June 2025.
Passengers will travel amidst modern facilities
According to NCRTC officials, passengers will soon be able to travel between modern facilities in Meerut Metro and Namo India. The speed of Meerut Metro will be 120 km per hour in an area of 23 km. Namo India’s maximum operational speed is 160 km per hour, which is currently running from New Ashok Nagar in Delhi to Meerut South. Special security arrangements have also been made.
For the first time in the country, the semi-high-speed trains connecting Delhi to Meerut on the same infrastructure will be seen running soon. The adapted schedule of both will be made. Namo Bharat Train is currently available every 15 minutes, which can be up to 10 minutes after the operation of the entire corridor from Sarai Kale Khan to Modipuram. The frequency of Meerut Metro will probably be 7 minutes.
This is how it will operate
According to NCRTC, special care has been taken for the convenience of passengers while creating a train schedule. Island platforms have been arranged at such stations in Meerut, where Meerut Metro and Namo India will stop. Namo India on one side and Meerut Metro on the other side, so that passengers can get off one train and catch another train from the front platform. In addition to the counter at the station for ticketing, ticket vending machines will be available, from which tickets can be purchased from cash, cards and UPI. Train tickets can also be purchased from Namo Bharat Connect app. The feature of ‘Journey Planner’ has also been given on this app, so that passengers can get information about their destination.
Operation of the entire corridor
The total length of Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut Namo India Corridor is 82 km, including 16 Namo Bharat Station. On this section, Meerut Metro will be operated with 13 stations in 23 km from Meerut South to Modipuram depot. Stopping at all stations from Meerut Metro, this distance will be completed in about 30 minutes. After Meerut South, Namo Bharat Train will stop at Shatabdi Nagar, Begumpul (Underground) and Modipuram.
