The Calcutta HC division bench said it may have to order a review of every appointment made by the WBSSC in 2016 under teaching and non-teaching categories.
A division bench of the Calcutta High Court on Thursday said it may have to order a review of all recruitments made under teaching and non-teaching categories by the West Bengal School Service Commission (WBSSC) in 2016.
On Thursday, after the matter came up for hearing before a division bench of Justice Debangsu Basak and Justice Shabbar Rashidi, it asked the commission’s counsel whether the WBSSC had the necessary ingredients to go through the review process.
The Commission’s counsel then replied that the WBSSC did not have copies of all the Optical Mark Recognition (OMR) sheets, but only those which were recovered by the CBI officials and given to them.
However, the commission’s counsel said that if the court orders, the WBSSC officials are ready to conduct the review on the basis of OMR sheets.
Subsequently, the bench made preliminary observations that it may ultimately have to order a review of all recruitments under both teaching and non-teaching categories in state-run schools by the WBSSC in 2016.
The matter will be heard again on Friday. If the bench ultimately orders a review, the entire panel of recruitments done in 2016 could be canceled if irregularities in the induction process are proven beyond doubt.
