West Bengal Chief Minister and TMC supremo Mmata Banerjee exited the Election Commission of India on Thursday, alleging that some people tried to implement the controversial NRC through ‘backdoor’ to demand a documentary evidence of citizenship.
The CM said the EC was separating the voters born between July 1987 and December 2004 and demanding their citizenship documents in the name of ‘Special Intensive Amendment of Electoral Rolls’.
He alleged that the election bodies were behaving like a ‘BJP’s sage’, asking if it was trying to implement NRC through the backdoor.
“I have received two letters from the ECI, each of which includes 25-30 pages. I have not been able to go through them through them yet. But whatever I have understood from a cursory eye, the Commission is now as a declaration to declare a declaration from voters born between July 1, 1987 and 2 December 2004, as a declaration where they are certified as a letter where they will be certified as a letter, where they will be certified as a letter, where they are certified as a letter, Will certify, where they will certify as a letter, Digha.
Banerjee Purba is to oversee preparations in the coastal city of Medinipur district and participate in Lord Jagannath’s Rath Yatra from the new inaugurated Jagannath temple on Friday.
He said that the matter was “a matter of great concern”, which is why he called the press in a hurry to address the issue.
Demanding clarification from the EC, the TMC supremo said the step was more dangerous than the NRC.
“I do not understand the reason behind the reason behind the ECI’s step or the reasoning behind these dates. It is nothing short of a scam. I want to clarify from the Commission if they are trying to implement NRC through the backdoor. In fact, it seems more dangerous than NRC, which should oppose every political party in protest,” he said.
Acting on BJP’s wishes
Mamta Banerjee alleged that the Election Commission was working on the basis of BJP’s wishes, challenging the election body’s right to search for documents.
“The ECI can do this unilaterally without consulting the central and state levels recognized at the central and state levels, unilaterally, who play an important role in running the democratic structure of the country? They are treating us like bonded laborers and can do this to fulfill the wishes of only a certain RSS practitioner, which are now running the country for all practical purposes,”
He further claimed that a similar letter was sent to poll-bound Bihar, but he alleged that nothing would happen there as the BJP has been ruled by the BJP.
“There will be nothing in Bihar because the BJP’s rule is that the state and the state elections are at the door there. Their real goal is Bengal. They want to remove the names of legitimate young voters. Many parents will not be able to present their birth certificates. They are targeting the community, students, villagers and migrant workers of unruly voters.”
