What is Mogami-Class Frigate?
It is the Mogami-Class Warship of Japan’s Meritime Self Defense Force (JMSDF). It is named after the Mogami River. It is one of the 10 most advanced frigors in the world. This frigate was commissioned in JMSDF in April 2022. Currently, its home port Yokosuka Naval Base is. Its weight is 5,500 tonnes. It is 132 meters long and 16 meters wide. It can move at a speed of 30 nautical miles per hour. Its design is such that the enemy cannot easily find it in the sea. It also has a MK-45 Mod 4 Naval Gun, 2 Missile Canister for 8 Type 17 Anti-Ship Missiles, 1 Searam, Type 12 Torpedo and a hanger for a helicopter.
During his Japan tour, the Navy Chief also visited Japan United Marine Shipyard. It is the hub of the ship building of Japan. Here he was informed about Japanese ship -making technology, automation and industrial experts. India has also become one of the big countries of the world in terms of ship building. India has the ability to create all types of warships. Talking about India’s capacity, the aircraft is preparing all kinds of warships in the country including career, distrient, frigate, submarine.
Naval relationship between India and Japan
The relationship between the Indian Navy and Japan Meritime Self Defense Force (JMSDF) has strengthened further over the years. In many multi-national and shared exercises, both the Navy share their respective strategy. The naval exercise of the quad countries started between India and the United States in 1992, followed by Japan in 2015 and then Australia in 2020. Apart from this, shared naval exercises Jimex i.e. Japan India Meritime Exercise continues continuously since 2012. Meritime Security 2+2 dialogues are also organized between India and Japan. There is also a logistic exchange agreement between the two countries, under which the two countries can also share each other’s naval logistics. The Indo-Pacific sector is growing as a strategic partnership of peace, stability and security.
