Have you got a long day to attend a wedding ceremony? If your lipstick and eyeliner tend to smudge, try these hacks for a long-lasting makeup look.
The wedding season is here and with it comes a ton of wedding invitations. Choosing a dress to attend a wedding is an exciting moment. But the one element that really puts the look together is makeup. It is the standout aspect of your look that matches your outfit while highlighting your best features. Whether you choose bold or subtle glam, there are some basic tricks you should be aware of.

Even if your makeup is flawless at the beginning of the day, it can soon lose its appeal as the day goes on. Humidity, exposure to long periods of time, and eating can cause your makeup to look less shiny than you’d like. Problems like blurring, fading and patchiness may arise. But the way forward is to choose the right preparation tips and long-wear techniques, so that the makeup remains intact even on the heaviest of days filled with wedding festivities.
Drishti Madnani, co-founder and beauty expert, Shreyoan Cosmetics, shares one of the basic principles of long-lasting makeup with HT Lifestyle. “Long-lasting makeup starts with a well-groomed base. Good, smudge-proof makeup depends entirely on balance: good preparation, smart layering, and the right products,” she says.
Here are 5 tips shared by Drishti:
1. Prep and priming for a smooth canvas
- Start by washing and moisturizing your face to create a smooth surface.
- Once the skin is taken care of, apply a primer that suits your skin type: a mattifying type for oily skin and a hydrating type for dry and normal skin.
- Don’t forget your lips and eyes: Exfoliate and moisturize your lips, and apply eyeshadow primer to your lids to keep pigments from dulling and creasing.

2. Layer for Longevity
- Apply makeup in light, buildable layers.
- Lightly apply foundation and press in with a damp sponge for a natural, blurred finish.
- First contour and blush with a cream base and apply translucent powder on top.
- Applying this type of layer sets the color and maintains the depth, which lasts without affecting the look.
3. Lock it down
- Once your look is complete, set your makeup.
- Use a light translucent powder on oily spots, and finish with a setting spray to seal everything in place.
- It protects your makeup from sweat, moisture and long wear.
4. Waterproof and smudge proof
- Use waterproof mascara, eyeliner and long-wear products to avoid smudges during humid conditions.
5. Don’t forget the touch-up kit
- Have the essentials on hand: blotting paper, your lip color, a pressed powder, and a mini setting spray for smooth, easy touch-ups during the festivities.
