Pediatrics liver disease is a rare but potentially life-threatening condition that varies considerably from adult liver disease in terms of causes and progresses. Unlike adults, where cirrhosis and hepatitis are common criminals, doctors say that children’s liver issues often stems from congenital or genetic disorders such as bile layers, metabolic disorders, or cancer such as hepatoblastoma. In an interview with HT Lifestyle, Dr. of the Liver Transplant Program at Manipal Hospital Vijayawada. Tom Cherian shared that pediatric liver disease is particularly worrying for the rate of progression, and said, “Some children are well born, and sadly, they stop the falls, ignoring.”

Treatment options for liver disease in children

Dr. Rajesh Chandra, consultant, medical gastroenterology, Manipal Hospital Vijayawada said that often, drugs and auxiliary therapy can temporarily offer some relief and liver implantation is the only therapeutic option after an irreversible injury. “Transplants in children, however, are technically more complex. It is an operation in a very sensitive area, with very small blood vessels.”

Success rate and challenges

According to experts, the success of these processes depends not only on the ability to operate, but also in the knowledge of pediatrical anesthesia at a high level, intensive care of children, and teamwork between surgeons and gastroenterologists.

“Even after a surgery, monitoring is important for rejection and transition. The rate of surveillance has crossed over 85-90 percent in advanced centers, which gives children a very good opportunity to live a healthy life,” Dr. Rajesh Bathina, Medical Gastroenterology, Manipal Hospital Vijayawada said.

Awareness and preliminary detection importance

Experts have warned that hesitation can be fatal, and more awareness about pediatric liver disease and organ donation is necessary for children fighting severe liver disease. However, progress in genetic testing, imaging and expert care has made it possible to treat already untreated conditions, including some types of cancer with combination treatments and transplants.

Dr. Cherian said, “It is a pity that we first refuse to treat parents due to this misunderstanding and see that children’s liver diseases are unavailable. Heches may be fatal. Acute tests, refined imaging, and experts with referrals, which were once considered untreated conditions – can be treated with some types of cancer.”

For children fighting severe liver disease, he said, a transplant is not just a medical operation – it is a life saving. Dr. Cherian said, “Excess public awareness about organ donation and setting up a more independent pediatric transplant center can not only play their role in giving these children a second chance, but can give an opportunity to live their lives completely,” Dr. Cherian said.
