Artificial intelligence is rapidly making its presence felt and its latest form is imitation of celebrities. In India, actors like Amitabh Bachchan, Anil Kapoor and Jackie Shroff have prevented misuse of the developing technology and have taken the legal route to protect their personality rights.
We have learned that singer Kumar Sanu is next in line. His voice is very famous and many people imitate him. In such a situation, he does not want his voice to be misused. He said, “I recently went to the US to perform in many concerts. My next step will be to approach the court and get such an order. Today technology is dominated by AI. I don’t think it would be right if a duplicate of any singer is made. We have to protect ourselves from such methods. AI is dangerous.”
Singers from yesteryears remain relevant even when their voices are used in new song covers by AI. This is also proof that nostalgia is very powerful and even today filmmakers are busy recreating old chartbusters.
Does this mean that today’s music is not that good? Sanu replies, “I don’t know why producers and directors are not able to understand… They ignore melody, use cheap lyrics, force things on the public. This is not good. They are hell-bent on destroying the criteria of music. I have no problem if they remake old songs, but if the original singer is capable of singing again, no one else will be able to sing it as well. Why are people not able to understand this?”
