Health Departments of Singapore and Hong Kong reported an increase in Kovid -19 infections last week, which is caused by the SARS -COV -2 virus.

Singapore’s Health Ministry said in a press release on 13 May that the estimated number of Kovid -19 cases increased from 27 April to 3 May 2025 from 27 April to 3 May 2025 as compared to 11,100 cases in the last week.
The Singapore government said, “In the same period, the average daily Covid-19 has increased from 102 to 133 due to hospitalization … Hospitals are currently able to manage an increase in cases.”
Noted that cases of the average daily intensive care unit (ICU) were reduced in three to two cases.
Kovid -19 cases in Hong Kong
Similarly, in Hong Kong, the percentage of positive tests for Sars-Cov-2 virus gradually increased from 6.21 percent to 13.66 percent to 13.66 percent from four weeks ago (6 to 12 April)-which is a record high in the previous year.
Officials said that in mid-April of this year, Covid-19 became more active. “Based on the previous data, we hope that the activity level of Covid-19 will remain at a high level for at least the next few weeks,” the controller of the Center for Health Protection (CHP), Dr. Edwin Tsui said.
Kovid -19 cases in India
Recent media reports of increase in Covid-19 cases in Singapore and Hong Kong in the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare in India organized a review meeting on Monday.
Sources told news agency ANI that the meeting included experts from the National Center for Disease Control (NCDC), Emergency Medical Relief (EMR) Division, Disaster Management Cell, Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and Center Government Hospitals.
As of May 19, 2025, the number of Kovid -19 cases active in India is 257 -a very low figure in view of the large population of the country. Almost all of these cases are light, in which no hospital is required to be hospitalized.
The Union Health Ministry is vigilance and active under the supervision of the status, ensuring that there are appropriate measures to protect public health.
What is the reason for an increase in Covid-19 cases?
The Ministry of Health of Singapore said that the increase in cases may be due to several factors, including reduced population immunity.
Meanwhile, an analysis of CHP of Hong Kong showed that the “active period” is associated with changes in major circulating strains and herds in Hong Kong with a decline in immunity.
How common are the ‘active period’ of Covid-19?
Hong Kong Health Department believes that Covid-19 has developed in “spatial disease with periodic patterns”.

The Health Ministry of Singapore also mentioned that periodic Kovid -19 waves are expected throughout the year.
Which Covid-19 is the current increase in stress cases?
Hong Kong officials said in a statement on 15 May that the XDV stress of the Kovid -19 virus has been roaming the local level since the end of March this year.
“In early 2024, major strains were transformed from XBB to JN.1 locally, while in the third quarter of 2024, they turned from JN.1 to Kp.2 and Kp.3; and they have turned from the end of this year to XDV from the end of this year,” the Hong Kong Kong Kong has been called in a press release by the Government of the Special Administrative Region.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health of Singapore highlighted that LF.7 and NB.1.8 (both descendants of JN.1 variants) are currently the main Covid-19 variants visiting Singapore.
They account for more than two-thirds of locally indexed cases. JN.1 is also a version used in the construction of the current Covid-19 vaccine.
Should you be worried about this Covid-19 wave?
The answer is: no.
According to the information, cases in Singapore and Hong Kong are mostly mild and are not associated with unusual severity or mortality.
The CHP of Hong Kong said that there is no evidence that XDV will cause more serious illness.
The Ministry of Health of Singapore also stated that there is no indication that localized variants “are more broadcast or cause more serious illness than already operating variants.”
Meanwhile, India’s top epidemicist, Dr. Raman Gangkhedkar told News 18 that there is no need to panic until there is evidence of hospitalization or increase in deaths.
“… So far, nothing is new or dangerous,” Dr. Raman Gangkhedkar said, “We should accept that Kovid -19 has become spatial.”
“The only precaution for elderly and immunological persons is to follow the covid-covered behavior like maintaining hand hygiene, wearing masks and avoiding crowded places,” Dr. Gangkhedkar said.
