New Delhi: Kiran Rao, who is busy promoting ‘Laapta Ladies’, talked about her relationship with Aamir Khan, who is also the producer of her film. Kiran Rao and Aamir Khan had announced divorce in 2021. Both also have a son. Despite being separated, they are often seen together, a major reason for which is their son Azad Rao.
Kiran Rao told Connect FM Canada, ‘It was natural for us, because we started working together and even after becoming partners, we continued to work together. We understand each other in a way that goes beyond the marital relationship. We are very close creatively. We also share similar opinions on many issues.

Kiran Rao further said, ‘We had a very familial, honest relationship. This is something that you cannot erase and you do not want to do so because this is the basis of our relationship. We never had any bad disagreements or big fights. We just wanted to redefine our relationship. We wanted to remain a family, but did not want to get married. So we just made our own rules. I don’t think relationships can be given social tags. It is unusual for people to want to continue working together, live in the same building, eat meals frequently, even after a divorce. I would not have been happy if our relationship had ended due to the breakdown of our marriage.

Kiran also told that Aamir Khan takes her opinion on cinema seriously. She said, ‘He has sought my opinion on many occasions. I feel that since we think alike on many levels, I am also able to influence him. Although he has always been a person who follows his own path, he gives a lot of importance to my opinion. Let us tell you that ‘Missing Ladies’ is directed by Kiran Rao and supported by Aamir Khan Productions. Kiran Rao is returning as a director after more than a decade.
