The Kia Carens now gets a CNG option through a dealer-fitted kit from Lovato. Offered only in Premium (O) trim, it costs Rs 77,900 more than the petrol variant.
Kia India will now also offer the Carens with CNG powertrain. The problem, however, is that this is not a factory-fitted kit. Instead, it will be a dealer fitment. The CNG kit will be available only with the Extra Premium (O) trim Ex-showroom price is more than Rs 77,900 10.99 lakh.
The CNG variant will also come with a warranty of 3 years or 1 lakh km. The CNG kit is being supplied by Lovato. Interestingly, while Hyundai opted for factory-fitted dual-cylinder technology for its CNG vehicles, Kia opted for aftermarket fitment. As of now, we have no information about the power and torque output levels when the engine runs on CNG.
When running on petrol, the 1.5-litre naturally aspirated engine produces 115 PS and 144 Nm. For those who do a lot of highway driving, a 1.5-litre diesel engine is also available. It is tuned to make 115 PS and 250 Nm and has a claimed fuel efficiency of 21.30 kmpl.
