A Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) bus burst into flames between Kayamkulam and Alappuzha on Friday morning, police said, adding that none of the 44 passengers were injured due to the quick response of the driver.
Police said the passengers had a narrow escape as the driver smelled burning and asked everyone to quickly get off the bus. PTI informed of. The bus was almost completely destroyed in the fire.
An official from Kayamkulam police station said, “The fire has been extinguished by the fire force. The cause of the fire is not yet known.”

The bus driver told media persons that he had noticed a change in the sound of the engine and hence he parked the vehicle on the roadside. Subsequently, he saw in the side view mirror that thick smoke was coming from the rear of the bus, the driver said.
“I asked everyone to deboard immediately. There were 44 passengers on the plane at that time and about 20 of them were college students who were scheduled to deboard at the next stop,” he said. PTI.
The driver also said that the cause of the fire could not be leakage from the diesel tank as it was located at the rear of the bus.
“If it was a leak from the diesel tank, fuel would have leaked, but there would have been no fire. The fire started in the engine. Something happened there,” he said.
