Former US vice -president Kamla Harris, according to a new Morning Consult Poll released on Friday (March 21), is a clear pioneer for the nomination of the 2028 Democratic President. The survey shows Harris shown with a commanding lead on other potential contenders, although he has not yet announced his intentions for another presidential post.
Harris leads strong rivals
60-year-old Kamala Harris gained 36% support between Democratic and Democratic-Surprise independent voters, which gave her a significant double-digit profit on her closest contestant, former Transport Secretary Pete Butgieg, who won 10%.
The retreat with 5% supports was California Gavner Gavin Newsom, Progressive Representative Alexandria Okasio-Cortes, and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz-Hyris’ 2024 running mates.
Other potential candidates also registered in small numbers. Businessman Mark Cuba and Pennsylvania governor Josh Shapiro voted at 4%in each, while New Jersey Senator Corey Booker received 3%. Governor of Michigan Greatchen Whitmer, Illinois Governor JB Pritzkar, Kentki Governor Andy Aashear, and Minnesota Senener Amy Clobachar gave only 2% support to each.
Rahm Emanuel and other potential candidates
Rahm Imanuel, a former Mayor of Chicago and Chief of Staff of the White House, allegedly considered the 2028 bid, but his support remains minimal, in which only 1% supports him. In addition, 44% of Democratic primary voters said in the survey that they had never heard of them.
An opening for democratic leadership
While Harris remains a clear leader in the initial voting, he has avoided public spotlight on a large scale since the loss of 2024. Their limited appearances, such as broadway show outings, have left a place to carry forward other democratic figures.
Democratic voters continue to protest strongly for President Trump, as is clear from voting on the potential government shutdown. Walz and others have begun to take that role, the Minnesota governor pushed into a major battlefield like Visconsin before the upcoming elections.
Harris’s 2024 defeat
Harris suffered a decisive loss to President Trump in November, popular votes, electoral colleges or any swing state.
Democratic field remains uncertain
Due to no official announcement for 2028, the Democratic Field remains uncertain. Harris’ strong polling numbers indicate that she retains significant support within the party, but challenges such as Butgieg, Newsom and Ocasio-Cortez may still emerge as viable contenders.
There is still no formal announcement with 13% of Democratic voters and no formal announcement from any candidate, the 2028 race is widespread. For now, Harris holds an enough initial lead, although the race is far from fixed.
