Cultural programs have added to the beauty of places like Ghantaghar and Turji Ka Jhalra, which is bringing huge profits to the local business and tourism sector.
jodhpurJodhpur, the sun city of Rajasthan, is now spreading its grandeur not only in daylight but also in the darkness of night. The new experiment to promote night tourism in the city is proving to be completely successful. This concept, launched on the occasion of welcoming the New Year, has presented a new and attractive picture of the tourism future of Jodhpur. As per the orders of the district administration, till January 5, all the major tourist places of Jodhpur will remain open for tourists till 12:30 in the night. Due to this decision, tremendous enthusiasm is being seen not only among the foreign tourists but also among the local people.
The beauty of the city’s historical sites, ancient markets and public squares has increased manifold. From the foothills of Mehrangarh to the streets of the inner city, Jodhpur now looks alive even at night. The twinkling special lights, open markets and music resonating all around have made the atmosphere like a festival. Especially the cultural programs organized in the historical ‘Turji Ka Jhalra’ and ‘Ghantaghar’ area have enthralled the audience. Here Rajasthani folk music, traditional dance and different colors of art are attracting the tourists.
Administrative coordination and security arrangements
The visionary thinking of Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma and the guidance of Deputy CM Diya Kumari have been behind this successful event of night tourism. At the same time, the special efforts of Union Tourism Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat have played an important role in bringing it to the ground. In view of the huge crowd of tourists, strict security arrangements have been made under the supervision of Police Commissioner Om Prakash. Police forces are deployed at every major intersection and tourist spot of the city, so that tourists roaming late at night can feel safe.
Tremendous boom in business and employment
With tourist places opening till late night, smiles have returned on the faces of Jodhpur’s hotels, cafes, handicraft markets and families associated with local transport. Local businessmen say that due to night tourism their business has registered an increase of 30 to 40 percent. With markets remaining open till late night, not only are tourists getting more time for shopping, but new employment opportunities have also been created for the local youth. Now it has become clear that Jodhpur is not just a ‘day-destination’ but is becoming a global tourist city that stays awake all night.
