The union of students of Jawaharlal Nehru University on Tuesday reiterated its demand for educational relief measures, including a hostel expansion for PhD scholars from 2019 batch and restoration of Jawaharlal Nehru University entrance examination for PhD entry.
In a statement issued here, the students of the students urged the administration to provide an extension to the 2019 PhD batch, allowed four years PhD for the 2018 MPhil-PhD integrated batch, and scrap the hostel expulsion notice sent to the 2018 PhD scholars and subsequent batches.
It was emphasized that this should be ensured until the housing is completed.
After a meeting with the university’s evaluation branch, JNUSU said that the Vice Chancellor had approved the expansion for the 2019 batch on the basis of the recommendation of the Research Advisory Committee.
While the official notice was expected to be issued on Tuesday, JNUSU said that if the process is faced delayed, it would be followed.
Regarding the integrated mphil-PHD batch of 2018, the matter is under consideration by the university’s legal cell.
JNUSU has urged the evaluation branch to send a reminder to intensify the decision.
Separate, Director of Entry, Prof. In a meeting with Sunil Kateria, the students’ union pressurized for the restoration of JNUEE for PhD admission.
JNUSU questioned the argument behind the change of JNUEE with UGC-NET and expressed widespread concern among the students in the shift.
According to JNUSU, Prof. Katheria cited technical difficulties, lack of employees and financial obstacles, as due to shutdown of JNUEE.
However, JNUSU stated that most schools and special centers responded in favor of restoring JNUEE after a consultation launched by the Entry Branch in July 2024.
JNUSU said that he would meet Deputy Registrar Manoj Kumar Manuj on 14 May and confirmed his demand for reinstatement of JNUEEE from the current entrance cycle.
JNUSU called upon the students to actively support and participate in their ongoing campaign.
