A total of 7 centers have been set up across the state for the Excise Constable Recruitment Examination in Jharkhand.
The process of Excise Constable Recruitment in Jharkhand has become serious, as there have been tragic deaths in the physical test. 12 candidates have died in the Excise Constable Recruitment race in Jharkhand, while more than 100 candidates are said to be hospitalized. The process of running for the Excise Constable Recruitment Examination started on 22 August 2024. On 28 August 2024, the news of the death of four candidates came to light. Even after that the recruitment examination continued. After several consecutive deaths, CM Hemant Soren has postponed the recruitment examination for three days. According to the notification issued by the Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC) for Jharkhand Excise Constable Recruitment, a total of 583 posts are to be recruited, while so far 1,27,572 candidates have appeared in the physical test. Not only this, out of the total candidates, 78,023 candidates have already been declared successful, including 55,439 male candidates and 21,582 female candidates.
A total of 7 centres have been set up across the state for the Excise Constable Recruitment Examination in Jharkhand, which includes Giridih, Palamu, CTC Musabani, Sahebganj and two examination centres in Ranchi. The news of the death of candidates first came from Palamu district. Four more candidates died the very next day after the examination on 27 August. Two more students from Hazaribagh district are said to have died while participating in the race. After 28 August, news of the death of candidates started coming from other districts as well. As the controversy over this increased, the police finally confirmed the death of a total of 11 candidates till Sunday, 1 September. The total number of deaths has now gone up to 12, as news of the death of one more candidate has come from Ranchi hospital.
Police spokesperson Amol V Homkar said in an interview that adequate arrangements, including medical teams, medicines, ambulances, mobile toilets and drinking water, were ensured at all the centres. The incident has triggered a controversy, with BJP Rajya Sabha MP Aditya Sahu criticising the government’s recruitment policies and demanding a compensation of Rs 50 lakh for the families of the deceased candidates as well as provision of jobs for their dependents.
