NTA has given the candidates an opportunity to verify their identity by uploading a signed and attested certificate with a recent photograph attested by their institute.

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has extended the photo identity verification deadline for Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main 2026 Session 1 applicants. Those whose photos and documents are mismatched can make corrections till January 15.
NTA will conduct the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main 2026 in two sessions. Online application form registration for JEE (Main) 2026, Session-1 was available from October 31, 2025 to November 27, 2025. However, after the successful completion of the online application process, it was observed that some candidates registered using identity proof documents other than Aadhaar card, the agency said, adding that in some cases, the live photographs submitted by the candidates during the application process did not match the photographs on record with UIDAI.
NTA has given these affected candidates an opportunity to verify their identity by uploading a signed and attested certificate with a recent photograph attested by the Principal or Headmaster of their school/college.
“However, considering the complaints received from the candidates regarding non-accessibility of some attesting officers, candidates are now allowed to obtain attestation from Class-I Gazetted Officers, such as Tehsildar, Revenue Officer, SDM, DM/Class-I Gazetted Officer of the Indian Embassy (for NRI candidates). NTA has extended the last date for submission of certificates in PDF format through a link sent on their registered email ID for the convenience of all such candidates to January 15. 2026. Additionally, a printed official notice states that its copy must be presented at the examination center for physical verification on the day of the examination.

Every year, around 24,000 seats are available in NITs in India. In 2025, around 2,000 seats are expected to be reserved under the state quota for NITs in the North-Eastern (NE) states, along with 740 seats under the NEUT category. Those who secure a rank in the top 2.5 lakh ranks of JEE Main are eligible to appear for the IIT entrance examination – JEE Advanced.
