For the first time since 1978, Japan will increase its visa application fees. Objective? Bringing the numbers at par with other major economies around the world, which are also tourism hubs. The Land of the Rising Sun is already on the bucket list of almost every avid globe-trotter around the world – even if they’ve already paid a visit – and if anything, this hike will only further cement Japan’s already well-rounded status as a bucket list destination. A report in Outlook Traveler said, “The Japanese government has announced plans to revise a number of travel-related charges. These include increases in airport departure taxes and visa fees, as well as the introduction of a new pre-entry screening charge. The move is part of a broader effort to modernize infrastructure and finance public programs.”

With that in mind, you still have a few weeks to liven up your Japan trip on a budget. And Japan travel influencer Daisy, who goes by the handle @ichi.nichi.ippo, has just the 20-point bucket list you can cross off as soon as you land. Now the OG spots are definitely iconic for a reason. However, these will let you breathe the real Japan like a pro.
