ISRO’s first mission to the Sun, Aditya L-1, reached its intended orbit on Saturday. A few months after its successful launch, Aditya L-1 entered halo orbit around Lagrange Point 1.
After the historic success of the space mission, Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the Indian Space Agency on X.

“India hits another milestone. India’s first solar observatory Aditya-L1 has reached its destination. This is a testament to the tireless dedication of our scientists in realizing the most complex and intriguing space missions. I join the nation in applauding this extraordinary achievement. We will continue to push new frontiers of science for the benefit of humanity,” he wrote on X.
Following the successful insertion of Aditya L1 onto its intended orbit, ISRO took to Twitter to post the final confirmation of the successful completion of the mission.
“𝐈𝐧𝐝𝐢🌸, 𝐈 𝐝𝐢𝐝 𝐢𝐭. 🙂 ISRO wrote on Twitter, “Aditya-L1 has successfully entered the hello orbit around the L1 point.”
Aditya L1 Mission: Top 10 Points
-After the successful insertion of Aditya-L1 into its intended orbit, the satellite is expected to remain in place for the next five years. During its entire mission life, the satellite will revolve around Lagrange point-1 in an irregularly shaped orbit in a plane approximately perpendicular to the line joining the Earth and the Sun.
-Aditya L1 satellite was launched from Sriharikota on September 2, 2023. It is described as a “satellite dedicated to the comprehensive study of the Sun”. It is the first space-based observatory class Indian solar mission and its mission is to conduct in-depth study of the Sun.
-The satellite was launched on Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV-C57) from Sriharikota. After a flight duration of 63 minutes and 20 seconds, it was successfully placed into an elliptical orbit of 235×19500 km around the Earth.
-The satellite carries seven payloads which will serve the purpose of studying the Sun from different locations. These payloads have been indigenously manufactured by various laboratories in the country to observe the photosphere, chromosphere and outermost layers (corona) of the Sun using electromagnetic particle and magnetic field detectors.
– Its VELC instrument is built at the Indian Institute of Astrophysics, Bangalore; The SUIT instrument was prepared at the Inter-University Center for Astronomy and Astrophysics, Pune; The ASPEX instrument was built at the Physical Research Laboratory, Ahmedabad; The PAPA payload was created by scientists from the Space Physics Laboratory, Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre, Thiruvananthapuram; The SoLEXS and HEL1OS payloads at UR Rao Satellite Centre, Bangalore, and the magnetometer payload at the Electro-Optics Systems Laboratory, Bangalore.
-After its launch, Aditya L1 had to undergo several maneuvers to escape the Earth’s sphere of influence and reach its final destination. Orbital maneuvering is the act of changing the orbit of a spacecraft with the use of propulsion systems.
-The major objectives of Aditya L1 are study of solar upper atmospheric (chromosphere and corona) dynamics, study of chromospheric and coronal heating, physics of partially ionized plasma, initiation of coronal mass ejections and flares.
-Its objectives also include observing in-situ particle and plasma environments and providing data for studies of particle dynamics from the Sun. Physics of the solar corona and its heating mechanism.
-The satellite will also collect information to identify the sequence of processes occurring at multiple layers (chromosphere, base and extended corona) that ultimately lead to solar eruption events.
-It will also observe magnetic field topology and magnetic field measurements in the solar corona, as well as understand the drivers for space weather, such as its origin, structure and solar wind dynamics.
