Toronto. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Sunday said the investigation into the killing of India-designated terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar is “not limited” to the arrest of three Indian nationals and is ongoing. Trudeau said this is important because Canada is a rule-of-law country. This comment by Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau comes a few days after three Indian citizens were arrested for their alleged involvement in Nijjar’s murder. Amid the investigation, Canadian police on Saturday released photos of all three people arrested in Nijjar’s murder last year.
Nijjar was designated a terrorist by India’s National Investigation Agency in 2020. He was shot dead as soon as he came out of a Gurudwara in Surrey in June last year. Police have not provided any evidence of any connection to India, as was being speculated in the Canadian media. India has repeatedly denied the allegations, calling them absurd and motivated. Trudeau began his speech at a Sikh Foundation of Canada event held at the Royal Ontario Museum on Sunday by acknowledging the arrests made in connection with the case.
He said the investigation is not limited to the involvement of the three people arrested yesterday. Trudeau said I know that many Canadians, especially members of the Sikh community, are feeling uncomfortable and perhaps still scared. Trudeau also assured that every Canadian has a fundamental right to live safely and free from discrimination and violence. He urged them to remain calm and firm in their commitment to democratic principles and the justice system. He said that as Canadians this is what we do.
‘Canada’s compulsion…’ Foreign Minister Jaishankar said on the arrest in Nijjar murder case, exposed Justin Trudeau’s wrist

It is noteworthy that just a day before, Foreign Minister S Jaishankar had said that despite New Delhi’s warning, Canada is issuing visas to people associated with organized crime. Jaishankar said that some people in Canada with ‘pro-Pakistan inclinations’ have organized themselves politically and have taken the shape of an influential political lobby. He said he has seen reports that three people have been arrested and that Canadian police have conducted “some investigation.”
