The opposition India Block is planning to carry forward an impeachment motion against the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanash Kumar. This step will increase the opposition’s conflict with the Election Commission amid Rahul Gandhi’s allegation of ‘vote theft’.

Congress Rajya Sabha MP Syed Naseer Hussain told news agency ANI that the party is ready to use all democratic equipment, including an impeachment motion, although the need is required, although no formal discussion has been done so far.

“If there is any need, we will use all the weapons of democracy under the rules. We have no discussion (about impeachment) so far, but if needed, we can do anything,” Hussain told ANI.

While the Congress and the other parties are in the ongoing monsoon session of Parliament, according to the law, the 14-day notice period is a requirement to start the process of impeachment against a President or Vice President in India and CEC.

The monsoon session of Parliament started again on Monday after the Independence Day break. India block continued, which included Bihar Special Intensive Amendment (SIR).

Congress President Mallikrajun Kharge said in a post on X, “ECI cannot abandon its constitutional duty and cannot overcome the real questions of political parties. The right to vote is the most important right, which has been given to us by the Constitution of India. India will oppose any attempt to stop democracy.”

Kumar took this decision a day after Rahul Gandhi was reprimanded for his ‘vote theft’ and urged the opposition (LOP) leader in the Lok Sabha to either sign an affidavit or apologize to the nation for his comment, which he described as an ‘insult’ for the Constitution of India.

The Election Commission’s comment was on a day when Rahul Gandhi, a member of Rai Barley’s Parliament, launched his 1,300 km long ‘Voter Adikar Yatra’ from the Sasharam of Po-Bound Bihar, which to take steps against the claims of his ‘Vote Chori’ (vote theft) to the opposition India Blok’s campaign.

According to Article 324 (5) of the Constitution, the CEC can be removed in the same way as a judge of the Supreme Court, which requires a proposal for impeachment by Parliament.

On August 7, Rahul Gandhi accused the ‘Vote Chori (theft)’ of 1,00,250 votes that an assembly of Karnataka Lok Sabha constituency, 11,965 duplicate voters in section, fake and invalid addresses with 40,009 voters, 10,452 buk voters or single-dowry.

After the Sunday press conference by the CEC, the Opposition, Congress leader Pawan Khera said the comment looked like a BJP worker rather than an independent constitutional authority.

“It seemed that the BJP was speaking today. Did they react to one lakh voters in Mahadevpura?” Khera asked.

RJD leader Manoj Jha accused the commission of Ducking’s ‘Burning Question’, while JMM MP Mahua Maji asked the pole body to clarify the authenticity of the documents presented by Gandhi.

India Block had an impeachment against former Vice President Jagdeep Dhikar in December. The proposal was rejected. Dhankhar left the post on 21 July as the vice -president.
