Sonali Bendre has issued a clarification after she shared a post on autophagy, an alternative treatment therapy, and said it helped her fight cancer. The actor’s post faced backlash from medical professionals, who called him out for promoting ‘Neem Vidya’. He said that naturopathy and autophagy are unproven in cancer treatment. Sonali has now issued a statement saying that she is not a ‘quack’ and she will continue to share her journey honestly. Sonali’s statement
The actor shared a statement on his X account on Monday evening. It began: “I have never claimed to be a doctor, but I am certainly not a quack either. I am a cancer survivor, someone who has lived through the fear, pain, uncertainty, and reconstruction caused by the disease.”
He further added, “Everything I have spoken about so far is my experience and my learning. As I have said time and again, no two cancers are alike and no treatment path is the same. One of the many protocols I personally explored after extensive research and medical guidance was autophagy. It made a difference for me and continues to do so for me today.”
She added, “What really matters is open, respectful dialogue. We don’t all have to agree, but we must avoid dismissing each other just because we lean toward a different viewpoint. Each person must choose what feels right, safe, and empowering for them. I will always share my journey with honesty and humility, never as a prescription, but as a lived experience.”

It all started when the actor’s claim received a sharp rebuke from doctors on social media. Hepatologist Syriac AB Phillips, known as The Liver Doc on Twitter, reminded the actor that he had turned to modern medicine to treat his cancer.
He added, “Natural medicine is a sham. Fraudulent cancer treatments offered under the guise of natural medicine are a serious issue, with numerous cases of patients being financially exploited and potentially being harmed by delaying effective, evidence-based medical care. The FDA has issued several warning letters to inform patients about cancer treatments being sold illegally.” This was accomplished with the support of many doctors.
Let us tell you, Sonali was diagnosed with stage four, metastatic cancer in 2018. After treatment in a New York City hospital, she became cancer-free in 2021. After recovery, she has been advocating for awareness and support for cancer survivors.
