IIT Delhi has launched many new policies and programs to promote the overall development of its students. Prioritizing student security, mental health and growth of career, initiatives such as biometric attendance in mess, new courses, and establishment of an international campus have been initiated. Additionally, IIT Delhi will offer welfare programs such as music therapy, yoga and meditation to increase mental health.
These measures not only promote academic excellence, but also ensure physical and mental welfare of students. To implement the new education policy, IIT Delhi is integrating modern subjects such as artificial intelligence (AI) and green energy in the course. These initiatives strengthen safety with the help of biometric systems in hostels and mess, promoting positive mental empowerment through wellness programs.
For safety, IIT Delhi has implemented a QR code and biometric attendance system in Hostel Mess. This initiative helps in monitoring the nutrition of students and ensures their safety. The biometric system simplifies the attendance recording in the mess, ensuring better resource management and transparency. According to BK Panigrahi, the Dean of Student Affairs at IIT Delhi, this new system will be helpful in the event of any student getting sick or facing other issues.
Giving priority to the mental health of students, IIT Delhi has launched special programs such as music therapy, yoga and meditation with the aim of reducing stress and strengthening mental flexibility. Additionally, a 24/7 counseling service and a structured induction week have been introduced in the campus and in hostels to help new students adjust the life of the campus.
Starting from 2025–26 sessions, a new course for BTech and MTech will be implemented in IIT Delhi, with subjects such as AI and Green Energy to align with new education policy and to prepare students for future technical challenges. In addition, IIT Delhi has inaugurated its international campus in Abu Dhabi, offering a BTech in chemical engineering and research projects.
IIT Delhi aims to academically empower students and ensure their overall development. Through these initiatives, the institute has taken important steps towards promoting technical education as well as mental and physical welfare. Additionally, students who have not secured hostel housing will be allowed to stay in the campus for 10 to 15 days, while they get suitable housing elsewhere.
