IIM Sambalpur has announced a strategic change in its admission process. In the new academic year 2025-2026, the institute will conduct the admission process for its flagship MBA program independently. Additionally, the same admission process will also be applied to the newly launched course MBA in Business Analytics, which offers the option for a dual degree from the Asian Institute of Technology, Bangkok.
It is important to note that IIM Sambalpur ensures that admissions are merit-based using a combination of CAT 2024 scores, academic records, at-work experience and gender balance. Complete information can be obtained from the website of the institute.
Candidates are provided flexible options to participate in the personal interview either in physical or virtual mode.
Professor Mahadev Jaiswal, Director, IIM Sambalpur, Said, “Since 2018, IIM Sambalpur has been part of the Common Admission Process (CAP), where it has collaborated with other IIMs to collectively conduct the shortlisting and personal interview processes for admission to the MBA programme. The primary objective of this collaboration was to optimize the limited resources during the formative years of the institute and to provide a convenient option to the candidates to avoid multiple interviews during the admission season.”
“However, with the introduction of this new and independent admission process, IIM Sambalpur has chosen to conduct its MBA admission process independently similar to the previous generation IIMs, allowing prospective candidates to be interviewed directly by the institute . we aim “To provide a more tailored and seamless experience for applicants, in line with our vision of harnessing talent and fostering innovation,” the director said.
IIM Sambalpur MBA Admission Process: Key Points
- Flexible Interview Mode: Candidates can opt for online interview or attend offline interview at IIM Sambalpur campus or its Delhi campus, giving maximum flexibility.
- Simultaneous entry: To streamline the experience of shortlisted candidates, a similar admission process will be adopted for the flagship MBA and fresh MBA (BA) programmes.
- Personalized Interaction: Direct, personal interactions are conducted between IIM Sambalpur and prospective students to allow better assessment in return.

MBA Admission Timeline:
Students shortlisted after the first round will be informed via email by January 10, 2025, and they will have to register on the portal by January 25, 2025. Candidates have to verify and update their information, upload required documents and give their preferred mode of interview if they are further shortlisted.
- The second list for personal interview will be communicated to the shortlisted candidates, who will then be able to choose their preferred slots.
- Personal interviews will be conducted between March 3, 2025 and April 182025. While online interviews will be conducted during this period, dates for offline interviews at Sambalpur and Delhi campuses will be published in due course.
- First merit list will be declared tentatively Subsequent lists (if necessary) will be declared on and after May 10, 2025, until all seats are filled.
