The Union Ministry of Education on Wednesday appointed Lucknow University Vice Chancellor Alok Kumar Rai as a full-time director of the Indian Management-Calcutta Institute.

The appointment of a full -time director follows the arrest of the second year student in the rape case.
The President has approved the appointment of Alok Kumar Rai, as a visitor of IIM Calcutta, in a letter to IIM Calcutta Board of Governors.
Before becoming VC of Lucknow University, Rai was a professor of management at Banaras Hindu University (BHU). He also served in several positions in various high-level committees and panels.
Under Rai’s leadership, Lu was the first university in Uttar Pradesh with A ++ grade by NAAC. This achieved the category-I status by the UGC and ranked in the top 100 institutes in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF), which secures 32nd position among the state’s public universities.
