This is the time when we start focusing on something that is quietly affecting millions of people – irritable bowel syndrome, or ibs. Unlike the conditions appearing on a scan or blood test, the IBS does not always leave visible signs, but the discomfort for those who live with it are very real. Bloating, abdominal cramps and unexpected bathroom habits are not “in your head” – they are part of a complex intestinal disorder that is often misunderstood or ignored.

According to Paes Hospitals in Telangana, 4 to 7% of people in India are living with IBS, and the number is gradually increasing but continuously. This is the reason that the subject for the 2025 IBS awareness month – can not be more time than abdominal pain. Because let’s face it, IBS is not just about digestion. This can take a serious toll on your confidence, your mental good and the overall quality of your life.

There are many types of IBS:

IBS-C (with constipation as the main symptom),

IBS-D (dominating by diarrhea), and

IBS-M (a mixture of both-sometimes constipation, sometimes diarrhea, it becomes difficult to manage it).

And when we often associate the flare with poor diet or stress-the valid trigger-poll is that, IBS behaves differently in each person. It is complex, it is disappointing, and unfortunately, it is still tarnished.

Enter: Rise of digestive drinks

A gentle instinct that is making its way into the wellness routine everyday – especially between the gene Z – the rise of a digestive drink. These herbal cones, which are often made of everyday content such as cumin (cumin), ajwen (carom seeds), fennel, ginger, mint and lemon, are gaining popularity for their soothing effects on the intestine.

Celebs are also part of the wave. Actor Alaya F recently shared his Go-to-Murning Tonic, while Malaika Arora and Jennifer Aniston have also opened the drink, which they prevent their digestion. But is real science behind these welfare nectar? Or is it just another trend that is ready in wellness clothes?

Ayurvedic beverage of Alaya F

Its morning mixture includes parsley, cumin, fennel, ginger, fresh mint, and soaked basil (sabja) seeds – all are submerged in warm water overnight. Taken on an empty stomach, it is to calm swelling and kick-start digestion. Especially helpful for people with IBS-D (diarrhea).

Malaika Arora’s clove tea

Malaika prefers clove-enacted water, which is known for its anti-inflammatory qualities. It is great to reduce general discomfort and can also help those with IBS-D, but less effective for constipation. Drink some cloves in hot water, drink.

Colostrum Kick of Jennifer Aniston

His Go-Two is a drink that is made with bovine colostrum (yes, first milk since cows), lemon juice, ginger and sometimes Manuka honey. High in immune-supportive nutrients, it is more towards IBS-C symptoms and overall intestine immune.

experts say

Many components found in digestive drinks are not just kitchen staples – they are supported by science. Ginger helps to move the intestine more efficiently and reduces inflammation. Peppermint has a naturally calm effect, chamomile cramps and can reduce fennel and mint inflammation.

Lemon juice is known to kick digestion enzymes, while probiotics and prebiotics nourish the intestine’s good bacteria. Dr. Bir Singh Sehrawat, Program Clinical Director and Head of Gastroenterology at Mageo Asia Hospitals, Faridabad. Bir Singh Sehrawat says, “These materials are at home,”, the head of gastroenterology in Faridabad, “These celebs support digestion, support gas and blotting, and regularly encourage bowel movements.

But when these drinks can offer comfort in the early stages of IBS or when the symptoms are light, they do not have a fix for everything. If the symptoms become more severe – unexplained weight loss, ongoing diarrhea or constipation, or blood in stool – this is the time to see a doctor. “In such cases, medical attention and an analog treatment plan is required,” they say.

Kalra Gupta, the head of the DiaTetics Department at Madukar Rainbow Children Hospital, agrees and says, “Digestive drinks are not replacement for medical treatment for IBS. Individuals with IBS must work with their healthcare providers to develop a comprehensive management plan.”

Lifestyle Twixes that can help

Food: Dr. Piyush Ranjan recommends a lower-podmap diet, which is shown to reduce IBS symptoms in many. Fiber-rich foods, fermented items such as yogurt and pickle, and known individual triggers (such as dairy or some vegies) can be helpful in avoiding.

Sleep: A chaotic sleep program can make a mess with your intestine more than you think. Poor sleep slows digestion and increases inflammation. Setting a consistent sleeping-and can avoid heavy late dinner.

Stress: The intestinal-brain connection is real. Anxiety and stress can spoil the IBS symptoms. Mindful activities such as yoga, deep breathing, or even a casual walk can help calm the nervous system and in turn, your intestine.

Hydration: Water is the best friend of your intestine. So there are herbal tea, and there are fruits like watermelon or cucumber that provide hydration and fiber.

Movement: Exercise helps everything – involve digestion. You do not need a hiit routine. Even regular walking or stretch can improve bowel movement and reduce inflammation.
