In late November, Crunchyroll launched an impressive casting for the upcoming season of solo leveling. Powerhouse Indian superstar Rana Daggubati boards the anime train in an ambitious feat as he dubs the Hindi, Telugu and Tamil voices for the role of Ice Elf King Barka. Delighting Indian anime fans, his unforgettable, powerful and distinctive voice welcomed otakus to an unforgettable big screen experience, as the Hindi-dubbed version of the omnibus film Solo Leveling – Reawakening secured an early theatrical debut on December 4.
Soon after the announcement that brought big smiles on the faces of Indian fans, Crunchyroll also revealed that the Baahubali star will lead one final anime surprise at Delhi Comic Con 2024 on December 6. On stage and at the Crunchyroll booth, the South Indian actor made a mesmerizing appearance at the fan convention event, which was followed by his appearance at a special fan screening of the new solo leveling film. Everything is successfully setting the tone for the arrival of Season 2 in the new year.

HindustanTimes.com had an exclusive interview with the beloved and enigmatic Indian artist at this year’s Comic Con in the capital. Daggubati didn’t hold back in detailing his brand new experience of voicing an anime character. While comparing his new program with the old ones, he also clarified which three villains from his filmography he would like to host on his talk show.
What attracted Rana Daggubati to Solo Leveling’s Barça
In the promo video for his introduction as Ice Elf King Barka, Rana Daggubati himself established that he has been enjoying villainous roles for some time now. Despite this, he eventually accepted the responsibility of voicing the mysterious antagonist who will participate in Solo Leveling Season 2.
Breaking down the thing that ultimately sealed the deal for him, the Indian superstar declared, “Well, I think about my whole life… I try to do things that excite me and, that make me Can teach a new culture. I’ve spent my whole life in movies, and I think most of the culture I know is through what I’ve seen or what I’ve done.
He further added, “I think that’s the fun of living as an artist. You don’t know what you’ve been called to, and you’ll get to see another part of the world that you never thought existed in its most beautiful form and so close.
Barça’s intimidating character won’t be lost in translation
Taking a deep dive into how a lot of emotion and rhythm often gets lost in translation, leaving the audience feeling a sense of loss, Daggubati basically reassured the audience that all three of his characters in Solo Leveling are Indian. This will not happen with dub. He declared, “The guidelines of the character are so clear that it will be a hit in all languages the same way.” I also asked him whether any of the three versions seemed more dangerous than the other.
However, he said that all three were as dangerous as the first one. Furthermore, he stressed that he faced no difficulties in voicing Barka in Hindi, Tamil or Telugu.
Sharing his experience of how translation happens in Indian films, he said, “I think it was not very difficult because we do that with film. And more likely, in the last 4-5 years, we have been making Telugu films, making sure that Hindi audiences see it, Tamil audiences see it, and the world sees it. Coming to the anime, he said that it is “an easy offering especially for people for whom language isn’t really a top priority… it’s really about storytelling.”

Remembering my old Thanos days
Putting the villainous responsibility of voicing Solo leveling’s Barca on his shoulders, the Baahubali star confirmed that it essentially took him back to the days when he played the MCU’s big bad Thanos for Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame. Gave his voice.
Describing his previous “beautiful experience” and combining it with the new experience, he said he was traveling when the first film came out. As a result, “I got to see the movie where I knew all of Thanos’ scenes, but I didn’t know the rest of the movie. But it was really exciting because I felt, OK. Now I am Thanos, and this is the world. So it was a very different experience.”
He further said, “I don’t think anyone has had such an experience of seeing some of the pieces before. And I think the same thing happened with Barça.”
What would Rana Daggubati want his fans to learn from the new solo leveling season and his character?
We finally got an in-depth look at how his character, Barca, and solo leveling hero, Sung Jinwoo, are completely gray characters who don’t fit into the stereotypical definitions of the villain/hero binary. This prompted Rana to admit that he wants fans to take the latest offering as “a really fun experience” that highlights an “underdog” narrative.
Additionally, he also urged viewers to be open to exploring “deeper themes of rejection in society” and also talked about how people are “protecting”, i.e. people who “stand by you.” “
“There are very respectful lessons that it will teach you, but in a very entertaining and violent way.”

Finally, I presented him with a hypothetical situation, demanding to know which of his villainous roles he would host on the unfiltered Prime Video talk show, The Rana Daggubati Show. He chose three characters from his entire filmography: Solo leveling’s Barca, Marvel’s Thanos and his unforgettable muscle supervillain, Bhallaladeva.
Denying responsibility for mediating the conversation in this sham setup, Rana bluntly said, “I would just say, ‘Okay, let’s have a drink now,’ and see what happens. I’m here to take the conversation forward.” I will not increase it. Whatever direction they take me, I will go in that direction.”
