Atomic power: The last few hours of the Iran-Israel struggle have been baffled. US President Donald Trump has announced a ‘whole and complete’ ceasefire between Israel and Iran and said that the ’12 -day war’ has now ended. But amidst all these questions, there is a question that many people are asking, but no one has the answer. Where is Iran’s sensitive reserves of up to 60 percent of the enhanced uranium. Nuclear weapons require up to 90 percent of uranium. This question came into existence when the US attacked three nuclear plants in Iran. After which the US President said that these facilities have been completely destroyed by the shower of American bunker-busting bombs and missiles.
Let us understand how uranium works. Enhancing uranium means taking the ratio of uranium-235 by taking the naturally found element and removing uranium-238. Uranium is enhanced to about 90 percent (U-235) to make nuclear weapons. According to the final report of the United Nations Atomic Monitoring Institution and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in May, Iran has gathered 408.6 kg of uranium enriched up to 60 percent. That is, there has been a significant increase in the 133.8 kg uranium reserves mentioned in February. US officials say that 400 kg enrichment uranium is sufficient to make 10 nuclear weapons.
Adopted uranium is a uranium in which the amount of isotopes is increased. This isotope is used as fuel in nuclear power plants as it is fissile. That is, it can be broken by colliding with a neutron, which leaves a huge amount of energy. Natural uranium contains only 0.7% of the U-235 volume, which is enhanced by 3-5% for power generation. Atomic power plants are fraudulently fragmentation of uranium-235 at a controlled manner. The heat emanating in this process is used to heat water and make steam. This steam rotates turbine, causing electricity. Can one kilogram of uranium provide enough energy to illuminate a house for a year. The answer is yes. Electricity from this can illuminate not only one house for one year but more than that.
One kilogram of uranium-235 (which is the main component of the enhanced uranium used in atomic reactors) can produce about 240,00000 kWh (kWh-hour) energy. According to some sources, it may be equal to 20 Terrajool (TJ) or 1,111 MW-hour (MWH). An average home annual power consumption in India is around 3,600 kwh (or 3.6 mWh). If 1 kg uranium-235 to 240,00000 kWh energy is available. A house consumption is 3,600 kwh per year. So about 6,666 houses can shine for a year with so much energy. It is important to note here that this energy is based on complete fragmentation of uranium-235. In fact, only a small percentage of uranium is fragmented in nuclear reactors. There is also some loss in converting energy into electricity in nuclear power plants.
How many AC and electric cars will run from 1 kg
One kilogram of enhanced uranium has incredibly more energy. Its huge difference is clear when compared to traditional fuel like coal or oil. According to an estimate, 1 kg of decorated uranium can generate equal energy equal to about 160 tons of coal. Now to know how many AC, mobile charge, or electric cars can run from 1 kg of decorated uranium, we will need some estimated average energy consumption. A 1.5 ton of AC per hour consumes about 1.5-2.5 kwh power. It takes about 0.015-0.02 kwh electricity to fully charge a mobile phone. An electric car requires about 0.15–0.20 kwh power to run 1 km. Assuming that about 24000,000 kWh power is generated from 1 kg of decorated uranium, one can run an AC for 12000,000 hours. If an AC is run 24 hours/day can last about 1370 years. With this, 1.2 billion mobile phones can be charged. If it takes 80 kwh to charge an electric car once, then 3 lakh electric cars can be charged once. However it is important to remember that this is only theoretical calculation. There are various losses in power generation, distribution and use in the real world.
