Tom Holland’s Twitter hacked

On Tuesday, April 16 (US time), the beloved British actor posted a cryptic tweet announcing “Partnering with @Binance to launch Spiderverse.” The tweet featured a Spider-Verse-themed link, ‘spiderverse.app’. As Holland reportedly encouraged his fans to “Register to get early access to $SPIDER Coin and Spiderverse NFTs.”

The 27-year-old heartthrob has never sold cryptocurrencies before, but its absence on his social media platforms potentially became ideal grounds for his account to be hacked. While this initial tweet promoting the so-called Spiderverse NFT was eventually deleted, his X/Twitter was also modified to paste the link as an identifying banner on his bio.

However, no such development appeared online on his Instagram profile. Furthermore, the official Binance account did not promote any such “partnership” with Tom on its social media. With all signs pointing towards a possible hack, some early captured screenshots also saw a selfie of a mysterious man emerging on the actor’s X profile.

The now-deleted post showed the alleged hacker’s upside-down face in a mask pulled up to his chin. The curly-haired man, presumably the hacker himself, captioned the post, “Will you kiss me while I’m hanging from my web XXX,” referencing the iconic upside-down kiss from the original Tobey Maguire-led Spider-Man film.

The timing of this hack also coincides with the return of Sam Raimi’s 2002 directorial debut to select movie theaters on April 15.

Meanwhile, stunned internet users took to the microblogging platform to investigate the trouble. While many were initially completely confused about the developments, word of the indicated hack spread quickly.

On the other hand, others were relieved to know that they did not lose their much-loved web-slinger because of the crypto scheme. Someone online wrote: “Ok NVM Tom Holland was hacked 🙏🏻 he has been rescued, really thought we had lost another man in despair!”

A different perspective on the issue focuses on how Holland’s online absence prevented her from vocally supporting her Romeo and Juliet West End play co-star Francesca Amewudah-Rivers, who was criticized when casting news broke. There was a barrage of backlash and racist comments afterward. Internet. One Twitter user wrote in response to the issue: “Tom Holland was hacked and so we inspired him to come back online and defend his costar.”
