Schools will get vegetable supply from Tirhut Vegfed Union committees.
Bihar Mid Day Meal Scheme Director Mithilesh Mishra has sent a letter to all district program officials conveying his instructions.
Children in government schools in Bihar’s East Champaran district will now get vegetables with mid-day meals. The concerned authorities have made the necessary preparations for this. According to Local18, schools in East Champaran district will get fresh green vegetables from the vegetable producer committee. A cooperative society will provide vegetables to help them become self-reliant.
Now, fresh green vegetables will also be given to the children. Preparations are underway to provide vegetables to children in the areas of East and West Champaran including Gopalganj, Siwan, Sitamarhi, Muzaffarpur and Shivhar. Vegetables will be provided to these schools by Tirhut Vegfed Union Committees.
Mithilesh Mishra, Director, Mid Day Meal Scheme, Bihar has sent a letter to all the district program officers and issued instructions in this regard.
In the letter of the Directorate, it has been said that under the Bihar State Vegetable Processing and Distribution Scheme, priority should be given to providing fresh vegetables to vegetable producing cooperative societies. This will make high quality fresh and green vegetables available to school children in mid-day meals.
Meanwhile, Tirhut Vegfed Chairman Amit Kumar Shukla said that providing vegetables to schools will strengthen the federation. The business of vegetable producing committees will also increase, which will lead to economic success.
Moreover, vegetable distribution will soon begin in schools in all seven districts of Tirhut Union after vendor registration. Apart from this, Tirhut Union is striving to do business globally. Also, preparations are underway to supply the produce to Nepal and other countries, the report said.
In December 2023, girl students of a government girls’ secondary school in Gaya, Bihar protested after finding worms in their mid-day meals. The students said that they had been finding worms in their food for the past one week and had protested to teachers, but to no avail.
“We were given khichdi-chokha in the mid-day meal. Most of the students ate the food and they also found worms. I also found worms in the food. After this, we complained to the principal, but he did not say anything,” student Preeti Kumari told AyraNews24x7.
