Trade and cultural exchanges returned in 1819 when British officer Sir Stamford Raffles established a trading post in Singapore from Kolkata. Milestone in 60 years
In the last six decades, India and Singapore have acquired remarkable milestones. In 2005, he signed the Clastic Economic Cooperation Agreement (CECA), India’s first such agreement enhances trade and investment. As of 2015, his relationship proceeded to a strategic partnership and for a comprehensive strategic partnership in 2024. Singapore has become India’s largest investor, with a total investment of $ 167.47 billion from 2000 to September 2024, which is 24% of India’s total FDI. Defense and safety cooperation
Both countries are engaged in joint military exercises such as Symbex (Navy) and Agni Warrior (Army). A Navy Cooperation Agreement signed in 2017 enables the navies to fuel and re -form fuel at each other’s locations. They also cooperate on maritime security and peace in the Indo-Pacific sector.
Indian population in Singapore

Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, along with his wife and a high-level delegation, has been visiting India since 2-4 September 2025. Several major agreements will be signed in areas such as shipping, civil aviation, space, digital technology and semiconductors. On 4 September, PM Wong and PM Narendra Modi will inaugurate a container terminal in Maharashtra with a project over $ 1 billion from Singapore Port Authority. Wong will also meet President Draupadi Murmu, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and other ministers to discuss regional and global issues.
60 years celebration
This year is the 60th anniversary of India-Singapore relations. In January 2025, Singapore President Tharaman Shanmugatharatnam visited India, where the two countries launched a special logo characterized by India’s Kamal and Singapore’s orchid, symbolizing their friendship and shared values.
Importance of relationship
Singapore plays an important role in India’s pre-policy, which increases India’s presence in South East Asia and Indo-Pacific sector. It serves as an entrance to ASEAN for India, collaborating with both countries on platforms such as G20, Commonwealth and Indian Ocean Rim Association.
