Pottery is the place where I have found my voice – but it was not always like this. In my adolescence, an adverse reaction to the drug changed the way my mind and body function, some took away the “neurotipical” symptoms, which most people provide. It was a challenging chapter, but I refused to define it or limit me.
In 2016, I wandered into a ceramic exhibition without knowing that it would change my life. That day raised a curiosity that quickly increased in a passion. I signed up for pottery and workshops, and from the first touch of clay, I was bent. The Potary Wheel never felt like a tool of my choice, so I embraced the slab work – shaping, firing, and glazing pieces that gradually became my thoughts and mood to expand.
I have continued my craft through self-learning and workshops, including Anandagram, and under the guidance of major potters like Sandeep Manjrekar and Aarti Paliwal. Over the years, I have shown my work in exhibitions in India Habitat Center, Museo camera, and a horizon, and held sessions of hand pots on hand for children in selected NGOs.
It took me a little time to feel why utensils echoed with me so deeply: this is the magic of converting a lump of lifeless clay into something that feels alive – artistic expression and something with the soul. My pieces are never right, because neither are we. They are bizarre, fickle, and full of personality, echoing various moods that we all experience in life.
I take more time than most potters to finish my work, but for me, the speed is not the goal. Each piece is a small chapter of my trip, a will for patience, joy and flexibility. My hope is that when a composition of mine finds a place in your house, it also finds a place in your story. After all, we are all shaping something – whether it is in soil, in life, or in ourselves.
