Inspiring story of IAS officer Karnati Varun Reddy
JEE and UPSC exams are tough, but Karnati Varun Reddy is at the forefront by excelling in both these exams. From securing 29th rank in JEE to graduating from IIT Bombay and clearing UPSC in his fourth attempt, he has done it all.
Karnati Varun Reddy, who hails from Miryalaguda in Telangana, secured 29th rank in the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE). This achievement cleared the way for him to pursue B.Tech in Computer Science at the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay.
Reddy initially wanted to pursue an MBA, but to fulfil his father’s dreams, he prepared for the UPSC exam. Although his academic background was strong, Varun’s road to becoming an IAS officer was not without obstacles. He faced challenges in his initial attempts at the UPSC Civil Services Examination (CSE).
Even after failing in the first attempt, he did not lose courage and secured 166th rank in the second attempt. Due to his perseverance, he got 225th rank in the third attempt, but in the fourth attempt he secured 7th rank across the country and fulfilled his father’s dream.
Before becoming an IAS officer, Reddy served as an Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer. His impressive career continued when he held several important roles, including the collector of Nirmal district and additional collector of Kumuram Bheem Asifabad district.
His work at the Integrated Tribal Development Agency (ITDA) marked his impressive contributions to various development schemes. Currently, Karnati Varun Reddy serves as the Chairman and Managing Director of Telangana State Northern Power Distribution Company Limited (TSNPDCL).
Her journey is not just a personal triumph but also a source of inspiration. Her mother P. Nagamani is an additional director in the agriculture department; her father Dr. Janardhan Reddy is an ophthalmologist.
Varun’s elder brother is a surgeon at Kakatiya Medical College in Warangal. Karnati Varun Reddy’s inspiring story shows how dedication and resilience can turn challenges into triumphs, and inspire future generations to pursue their dreams with determination.
