Paris – A French minister on Sunday accused American diplomats of interfering in the operation of French companies, who allegedly send them a letter to tell them that the rollback of the diversity, equity and inclusion of US President Donald Trump may also apply outside the United States.
The French media said the letter received by the major French companies was signed by an US State Department official, which is on the US Embassy employees in Paris. The embassy did not answer questions from the Associated Press later this week.
Le Figaro Daily Newspaper published that what he said was a copy of the letter. The document stated that an executive order that Trump signed by the federal government in January to abolish the DEI programs, “also applies to all the suppliers and service providers of the US government, even if their nationality and the country they work.”
The document asked recipients to complete, sign and show it for a separate certification form within five days that they were in compliance.
The form published by Le Figaro also said, “All state contractors have to prove that they do not conduct any program promoting any program that violates any anti -discrimination laws.”
The form asked recipients to tick on a box to confirm that they “diversity, do not conduct any programs promoting equity, and violate any applied anti -federal discrimination laws.”
The letter stated: “If you do not agree to sign the document, we will appreciate it if you can provide a wide cause, which we will forward for our legal services.”
Auror Barge, focusing minister and discrimination for equality between women and men of France, said on Sunday that the letter is “a form, of course, of intervention. It is said that it is an attempt to implement a dick on our businesses.”
Talking to broadcaster BFMTV, he said that the French government is “following the situation very closely” and working to determine how many companies have received a letter.
The minister said that “many” companies have told the government that they do not plan to respond, “because they do not have an answer, in fact, for a type of ultimatum set by the American Embassy in our country.”
“This is out of the question that we will prevent our business from promoting social progress,” the minister said. “Thankfully many French companies do not plan to change their rules.”
