“Stop eating bread? You will often hear this advice from health experts these days, but it is impractical to give such an important part of Indian food,” Dr. Shubam says.

He says, “In India, most people regularly eat whole wheat bread. Yes, the entire wheat bread can sometimes cause blood sugar spikes and contribute to weight gain, but there are better options based on your health requirements.”

Which rotis can increase your health

Dr. Shubam further lists different types of rotis and shares many of their health benefits:

  • Jovar (sorry) There is a great option for people with diabetes or weight concerns. It is gluten free, low in calories, and high in fiber, which supports intestine health.
  • Ragi (finger millet) bread Calcium and iron are rich in, helps strengthen bones and promote hemoglobin levels, almost like a natural supplement.
  • Millet (pearl millet) bread Iron, fiber and protein are also rich in, which is ideal for diabetic patients and is for those who are looking for weight loss or muscle repair.
  • Oat bread This includes dietary fiber and beta-glucon, which can help reduce cholesterol and support heart health.
