This increases the friction between the parts of the vehicle. The pump may be damaged along with the fuel line. The engine may also suffer severe damage.

If the car doesn’t start then you are saved.
If petrol is put in place of diesel and you come to know immediately, do not start the car. If you start the car, the petrol mixed with diesel will immediately reach the engine. It is very dangerous for this to happen and many parts of the vehicle will get damaged. If you don’t start the car, the oil will remain in the tank. Get the wrong fuel removed from the fuel tank and pipe and get diesel filled.
