This is not the first time. About two months ago, a British F-35B had to make an emergency landing at Cochin Airport in Kerala due to ‘technical snag’. The aircraft stood there for several weeks, because it took a long time to bring its spare parts and technical team. Even then there was a huge cost of technical complications and maintenance of F-35 in international media.
Now after the Japanese incident, the question is that the aircraft which the US offers as its ‘Star Product’ is really worth trusting? Especially when America is trying to sell it to India. The US has long wants India to buy F-35 stealth fighter, but the Indian Air Force is not in its favor. The reasons behind this are clear-excessive maintenance cost of this aircraft, frequent technical faults and logistic support delays. India is already working on a mixture of Sukhoi, Rafael and Swadeshi Tejas and its priority is to pursue the indigenous AMCA project. In such a situation, buying a platform that is in discussion due to frequent technical flaws is neither strategically beneficial nor financially.
Trump sir! India does not want this aircraft
Donald Trump and Joe Biden’s team offered India to sell this aircraft several times, but the Ministry of Defense did not show interest in it. The events in Japan and Kerala show that this aircraft may be luxurious with stealth design, high-tech avionics and multi-roll capacity on paper, but the ground is in reality its operational availability and reliability is under question. So Trump sir, if your ‘Star Plane’ is standing on the runway again and again, then India will convert the deal into ‘no deal’ before it is fielded on the runway.
