Leaders of opposition party India Bloc on Saturday dismissed the projections of Exit Poll 2024, most of which predicted the return of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led NDA with over 300 seats. India Bloc leaders, who attended a meeting on the day of the last phase of Lok Sabha elections 2024, said channels have instructions from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) to run such numbers, and all these are psychological games ahead of the announcement of election results by the Election Commission (ECI) on June 4.
Senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh quipped that the party which is going to be out on June 4 has conducted these exit polls and confirmed that Bharat Bloc will win at least 295 seats in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. “The person who is sure to be out on June 4 has conducted these exit polls. Bharat Bloc will get at least 295 seats, which is a clear and decisive majority. The outgoing Prime Minister can meanwhile remain complacent for three days. These are all psychological games that he is playing but the actual result will be very different,” Jairam Ramesh said in a post on X.
The most surprising thing from the exit polls 2024 is that the BJP’s position has improved in South India. Most exit polls have shown the BJP-led NDA winning outright in Karnataka, where they lost the assembly elections last year. Apart from this, the BJP is also projected to open its account in Kerala and Tamil Nadu.
Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar dismissed the findings of the Exit Poll 2024 and said, “I repeat I don’t believe any exit poll. I am saying with confidence that we will cross double digits in Karnataka.”
Prominent Kerala Congress leader Shashi Tharoor, who is contesting against Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar in Thiruvananthapuram, called the Exit Polls 2024 “highly unscientific”. “…We have been campaigning all over the country and we know what the ground reality is. Exit polls are highly unscientific. Last year, most exit polls in Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan got the results wrong. We are interested in the real poll – the people’s vote… The BJP will lose by a huge margin in Karnataka and they will certainly not gain in Kerala and Tamil Nadu,” Tharoor said while speaking to the media.
‘Instructions from PMO’
Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) MP Manoj Jha leveled serious allegations against the channels running Exit Poll 2024 and said that they have instructions from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), which has spent a lot of money on this work.
Manoj Jha said, “I have seen many exit polls, but neither my political party nor I believe in these exit polls. We have many examples of this. Channels get instructions from the PMO and they have spent a lot of money. I have been a part of Tejashwi Yadav’s campaign… This campaign has created a wave among the people. They had two options, either ‘Mujra and Mangalsutra’ or war for employment… against inflation.”
Another senior Congress leader questioned why all the exit polls for 2024 are originating from South India and called it a question of Television Rating Points (TRP).
Former Chhattisgarh CM Bhupesh Baghel said, “One thing is common which is visible in all mainstream media, everyone started exit polls from Tamil Nadu, Kerala and then Karnataka and Telangana… The results will come on June 4 anyway, right now it is a question of TRP…”,
