Multinational Eurofragrance unveils its fourth proprietary perfume ingredient in Dubai Beautyworld Middle East Trade ShowThe latest exclusive raw material from the Spanish fragrance house brings richness to the fragrance compositions, Richness in the perfume industry means providing consumers with a fragrance that is rich in terms of its ingredients, Olivant® does this in a way that is more caring and sustainable,
Providing opulence in fragrance creations
As a world leader in the design of Middle Eastern fragrances, EuroFragrances welcomes Olivente® as a new addition to its palette of ingredients that can provide richness in fragrance compositions, a sought-after characteristic in Gulf region perfumes. Phenolic, animal notes reminiscent of castorium are often appreciated in mukhalat-type compositions, and Olivant® possesses many of these olfactory properties.
Olivant® is not only destined for Middle Eastern targets; Rather, it can also act as a highlighter for various aromatic ingredients found in other cultures. Mayur Kapse, General Manager India, Says: “The natural animalic character of Olivante® in itself is ideal for an Indian target who prefers a powerful profile like Shamma. In fragrance compositions that include specific Indian ingredients, it works wonders; a jasmine sambac will smell more fruity and a pink lotus note will be more leathery.”
EuroFragrance perfumers, who are formulating with this innovative captive ingredient, say that with the inclusion of Olivant®, fruity notes become richer, cheesy notes become more delightful and captivating, and some white floral notes become more intense. Since Olivant® is made from the substance left over from olives after oil extraction, it does not have an oily odor.
Belen Garcia, Master Perfumer at EuroFragrance Jo, who is creating from the raw materials, says: “In recent years we have seen how consumers in the West have turned to Middle Eastern perfumes. The powerful notes of leather and oud have gained consumer acceptance beyond the Gulf region. Olivant® is multifaceted and offers some of these olfactory aspects that are now appreciated in all geographic regions.”
Converting olive pulp into aromatic ingredients
EuroFragrance has partnered with an olive oil industry partner to develop its fourth proprietary raw material, Olivant®, in line with its sustainability philosophy, which converts olive residues into valuable by-products. R&D manager Felipe San Juan and technical perfumer Magdalena Rey spent months exploring the Spanish countryside to identify the olive variety with the ideal concentrations of volatiles and precursors, as different varieties produce different scent residues. For two years, he worked closely with a waste management engineer from a specific Spanish region to obtain the right raw material. Through an eco-friendly, multi-step purification process, EuroFragrance transforms this recycled waste into a 100% natural fragrance ingredient, Olivant®. San Juan emphasizes that terroir and climate are important, as Olivant® cannot be made from random olive pulp, and the team’s scientific expertise has enabled them to isolate the essential odor molecules. The component is currently under patent review.
An iconic Mediterranean ingredient
The name Olivant® refers to the Levant, birthplace of the olive tree, which was spread westward across the Mediterranean by the Phoenicians and eventually reached Spain. Today, the leading Spanish fragrance house, Eurofragrances, presents Olivant®, a perfume ingredient of Spanish heritage with global consumer appeal.
Signe Gusettil, Global Marketing Director of EuroFragrance The following is said about Olivante®: “Olivante® stands out for its ability to deliver the richness, or richness, of perfume in a refreshing and less heavy way. And, it’s not just for great fragrances. Our early trials formulating personal care and home fragrance products with Olivante® are promising and we think it is a proprietary ingredient with strong potential for mass market adoption.”
In addition to proposing a new olfactory experience, this natural ingredient can attract marketers who want to offer products with a sustainability story to their consumers.
