The recent directive of the Supreme Court to transfer all stray dogs in Delhi-NCR to shelter houses has expressed concern over the decision with citizens and celebrities. Among them are veteran actor Sharmila Tagore, who made a rare public statement urging compassion and nuances in dealing with the issue.
In a video shared by NCP national spokesperson Aneesh Gavande, on X, Sharmila Tagore said, “Today, we are facing Vivek’s crisis.
Calling for a more balanced response, he said, “I want a more fine and calibrated approach to systemic defects that are at the root of the so -called dog’s danger. We risk losing something necessary within us who cannot protect ourselves.”
He urged the government to reconsider the order, saying “There has been a tremendous loss due to the need for experience on sympathy. I hope that the Supreme Court tried and will get a good balance in justice.”
CJI agreed to review the court order
Responding to extensive criticism, Chief Justice Gavai agreed to review the court order on 13 August.
Reacting to this development, actor Randeep Hooda welcomed the reconsideration, tweeting: “Honorable CJI has agreed to pronounce the verdict about stray dogs in NCR. Passing a law and implementing a law, first, humanitarian – and another, weave and sensitivity needs.”
He accepted the complexity of the issue:
“Are stray dogs our collective community humanitarian responsibility? Yes. Can they be a threat? Yes. I love animals – but will I be able to make it a family right to a family that has lost a loved one for rabies or serious injuries?”
Randeep warned against mass improiding, saying that it is neither a viable nor a human solution. Instead, he advocated long -term strategies such as a large scale, cyclic nutrition and targeted transfer of aggressive packs. He urged people to adopt.
