UPSC Success Story: Arya believes that failure is a new beginning, which inspired him to secure the 163rd rank in his first attempt in 2013, thus becoming an IPS officer.

Anurag Arya was born on 10 December 1987 in Chhaprauli village in Baghpat district, Uttar Pradesh. His parents, both doctors, picked him up in the village, where he attended a local school and initially struggled with English. Determined to overcome this challenge, Arya joined the Indian Military Academy (IMA) in Dehradun in 2008. There, he improved his English, excelled in sports, and developed discipline and confidence.
After schooling, Arya followed B.Sc (Honors) in Physics from Banaras Hindu University (BHU). Although he is interested in science, he faced a shock when he thwarted two subjects in his final year of MSc at Hindu College, Delhi. This failure inspired him to reconsider his way, eventually decided to try UPSC exams.
Arya believes that failure is a new beginning, which inspired him to secure the 163rd rank in 2013, thus it became an IPS officer. He trained in the National Police Academy (NPA), Hyderabad, and served in Ghaziabad, Amethi, Balrampur, Mau and Pratapgarh, making an important impact against the Mukhtar Ansari gang. He currently serves as the SSP of Bareilly. His wife, Vanika Arya, is a PCS officer.

There was an uproar in Bareilly on Friday over a dispute related to “I Love Muhammad” banner in the Civil Lines area. The situation increased in stone-raising and clashes, inspiring the police to resort to a stick and charge. A large crowd gathered post-lovers, attracted significant attention to Bareilly. SP Anurag Arya reached the spot rapidly, deployed forces to bring the situation under control and detain many persons. The incident puts a spotlight on SP Anurag Arya.
After spreading the crowd, shoes, slippers and stones were seen scattered in a stretch of 200 meters, which reflects the intensity of the clash. At least 10 policemen were injured, several continuous bullet injuries, and media personnel covering the protest were also hurt. About 12 people were immediately arrested based on video footage collected by the police.
