The Delhi government on Tuesday announced that it would provide free i7 laptops to 1,200 top performing students, who excelled in their class 10 examinations, PTI. According to Education Minister Ashish Sood, ICT labs will be established in 175 government -run schools.
During a press conference, Sood highlighted that these “historic” decisions were made in a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta.
Under the Mukhiya Mantra Digital Education Scheme, students of Delhi Government schools scored high in class 10, they will get I7 laptops. The objective of this initiative is to support the needs of his future digital education according to the National Education Policy. He said that the scheme is expected to cost Rs 8 crore.
Sood criticized the claims of the previous AAP government of the “Shiksha Kranti”, indicating that none of the 1,074 government schools had functional computer labs. He said that under the leadership of the Chief Minister, the cabinet decided to set up information and communication technology (ICT) laboratories in 175 schools during the current session, the PTI report said.
Each ICT lab designed to meet the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) standards will be equipped with 40 computers, Sood explained.
The Education Minister also mentioned that the Delhi government recently signed an agreement with a private organization, which is to set up 100 ICT labs as part of a corporate social responsibility scheme in 100 government schools.
Sood further alleged that the previous AAP government had not established a single computer lab in schools and failed to maintain those built under Sarvo Shiksha Abhiyan. During the AAP rules, a computer lab was constructed in 907 government schools between 2015 and 2019, which is funded by the Center under the Sarva Sikh Abhiyan. However, all these laboratories remained non-functional, Sood claimed.
Additionally, the minister announced that an orientation program for class I students and their parents for nursery will be held on Wednesday in all Sarvodaya Vidyalayala under the Delhi government.
