An Australian rocket, which represents the country’s first attempt to reach the classroom with a domestic -level vehicle, crashed immediately after the launch.
On Wednesday, a space startup Gilmer Space Technologies, operated the first test flight of Aris rocket from Bowen Orbital Spaceport, about 1,000 kilometers (620 mi) in the north -west of Brisbane. The flight lasted for about 14 seconds, citing a company’s statement.
The launch occurred after a delay of months, as Gilmer Space initially planned to debut in March, but had to postpone several times, including delay in May due to the problem with the paelode fairing of the rocket.
In the statement, Chief Executive Officer Adam Gilmar said, “Space is difficult.” He said, “SpaceX, rocket lab and others needed several test flights to reach the classroom. We have learned a tremendous amount that will go directly to improve our next vehicle, which is already in production,” he said.
It is common for new rockets to fail at his early launch, and the three-phase Aris rocket was not carrying any satellite or valuable payload. Gilmer told Bloomberg News before the launch that success would mean successfully raising the launch pad.
Eris performed a small payload, which included a jar of vegmite, thick black proliferation on the toast that is usually considered the national symbol of Australia.
Gilmer Space, located in Gold Coast, Queensland, launched its rocket program in 2015 and was initially planned to launch by 2023. The launch date was postponed waiting for the regulator approval.
About 25-meter (82-foot) tall rocket uses a hybrid liquid-solid propellent system, which is safe and cheaper than liquid or solid fuel used by Gilmer Space.
On 25 July, the Australian Space Agency announced that Gillmar was awarded $ 5 million (about $ 3.3 million) from the Australian government to speed up rocket engine development. The company also receives support from investors such as Blackbird Ventures and Queensland Investment Corporation.
Gilmer said, “We have a lot of investors who are interested in investing in the company.” “But they are clearly waiting to see what happens with the launch before they decide to invest.”
