After Miss France and Miss Estonia, Olivia Yes, who represented Côte d’Ivoire at the Miss Universe 2025 pageant, has announced her resignation from the title of Miss Universe Africa and Oceania. In an emotional statement shared on Instagram, the popular beauty queen said she was stepping down to stay true to her values and inspire young women, especially in the African and African-descendant communities.

As Côte d’Ivoire’s representative at the Miss Universe 2025 pageant in Bangkok, I saw firsthand that I was capable of reaching great things despite adversity. To move forward on this path, I have to stay true to my values: respect, dignity, excellence and equal opportunity, these are the strongest pillars that guide me.
With a heart full of gratitude and deep respect, I announce my resignation from the title of Miss Universe Africa and Oceania, as well as from any future affiliation with the Miss Universe Committee.
Throughout my journey as an Ambassador and Beauty Queen, I have served with commitment, resilience, discipline and determination. However, to fully reach my potential, I must hold fast to my values—guiding principles that pave the way toward excellence.
As I stand on the stage, my biggest desire is to be a role model for the new generation, especially young girls. I encourage them to push their boundaries, confidently walk into rooms where they believe they don’t belong, and proudly embrace their identities.
It is this commitment to making a positive impact that guides my decisions today. Stepping away from this diminished role as Miss Universe Africa and Oceania will allow me to fully dedicate myself to defending the values I hold dear.
I call on the Black, African, Caribbean, American and African-descendant communities: Continue to enter places where you are not expected. Let us open the way for others and sisters who will follow us. Never let anyone define who we are or limit our potential. Our presence matters, and our voices must be heard.
I would also like to congratulate the new Miss Universe. I wish Miss Universe Jamaica a speedy recovery and send her all my love. I am so grateful for the support I have received and the unforgettable experiences that have shaped me. I will now continue my journey in a different way with the same determination to uplift and inspire.

What happened at Miss Universe 2025?
This edition of the international pageant made more headlines for its controversies than its costumes or philanthropic highlights. Earlier, Miss Mexico Fatima Bosch had faced a falling out with Thailand director Nawat Itaragrisal, who publicly humiliated her, following which other contestants walked out in support of her. The incident sparked a massive backlash online, leading Nawat to issue a tearful public apology. Following the announcement of the results, netizens expressed disappointment when Fatima Bosch was declared the winner, and debated that her final answer was weaker than others, and that some contestants were more deserving of the crown.
One of the judges, Miss Universe 2005 titleholder Natalie Glebova, announced on Instagram that, in her opinion, the first runner-up was the true winner, and also criticized the lack of transparency in the judging process.
Another judge, Lebanese-French musician Omar Harfouch, resigned three days before the final, claiming that a ‘secret committee’ had already selected the top 30 finalists and had known the results only 24 hours before the contestants took part. However, Miss Universe President Raul Rocha responded to the rigging allegation and revealed that Omar Harfouch was in fact removed from the judging panel of Miss Universe 2025.
It seems that the 74th Miss Universe 2025 will be remembered as one of the most dramatic editions in recent history. Controversies have often tarnished the luster of this prestigious competition.
