The name of a right -wing gang is coming out behind the attack. The age of these youths is said to be 15-16 years. The gang claimed that the victim was doing ‘unfair behavior’ around the children, but the police rejected it. About one lakh Indians live in Ireland. Most of these are professionals, who work in healthcare or IT sector. Cases of racial violence have increased in the last few years.
Local councilor Baby Pereppadon said that the victim is still in shock and is unable to talk to anyone. Sinn Féin Party MP Scene Crowe, describing it as a racial attack, said, “This attack is disgusting and completely unacceptable”. He warned that if the attackers are not stopped, the community would be more scared.
People Before Profit Party’s TD Paul Murphy also described this attack as ‘frightening’. He said that the number of such attacks has increased in recent times. At the same time, Ireland’s Justice Minister Jim O’Kelaghan said, “Illegal immigrants commit crimes, there are no facts of this perception.” He said that the ratio of immigrants among prisoners in jails is less than their proportion in population.
